  • A marriage or civil union license must be used in Chicago or suburban Cook County.

  • You do not have to be an Illinois resident or citizen of the United States to marry in Cook County.

  • This license can only be issued if you are not already legally married to someone else or to each other.

  • The license is valid for 60 calendar days from the date of issuance. The license is not issued until both parties appear in person at the Cook County Clerk's office.

  • This application will only be kept on file for 15 days from submitted date.

  • You must present valid identification such as a current Driver’s License, State ID or Passport.

  • There is a $60 fee payable by:

    • Cash
    • Debit + $1.25
    • Credit + $1.75
